ADHD and Neurodivergence

I believe that ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence are not disorders or pathologies, but rather natural variations of human neurodiversity. Individuals with ADHD and other neurodivergent traits have unique strengths and abilities that should be celebrated and embraced. I support individuals with ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence from a non-pathologizing perspective, helping you embrace your strengths and navigate the challenges that may arise living in a world that is not always be structured to meet your needs.

My background in inclusive and anti-bias education cultivated a passion for working with ADHD and neurodivergence from a systemic and values-based lens. This means we will work to recognize the cultural narratives and expectations that have negatively impacted your sense of self and work to externalize those stories so you can see yourself more clearly. Then, we will explore your personal values and identity, noticing what makes you feel your most grounded and inspired. We will use those as guides to build skills so you can live a life that feels authentic to you and aligned with your values.

Some of the areas we may explore could include:

  • Education: I can support you in learning more about yourself and the way you process the world. Together, we can help make sense of behaviors, emotions or other patterns in your life that you struggle to understand.

  • Reducing Shame: We can process negative messages you’ve received about yourself over your life to accept, honor, and celebrate the parts of yourself that have been labeled as '“dysfunctional” in the past.

  • Supporting Relationships: Relationships can become strained when you move through the world differently than those around you. I can support you in advocating for yourself while honoring others’ needs so you can have fulfilling and connected relationships.

  • Emotional Regulation: We can work with you to develop strategies to move through intense emotions, improve self-regulation, and increase self-awareness.

  • Time Management and Organization: If it is aligned with your goals and values, I can provide tools and strategies to help you manage your time effectively, stay organized, and feel more satisfied with your daily life.

  • Self-Empowerment: Living with with neurodivergence in a neurotypical world can feel like you are always reacting to life, rather than actively creating it for yourself. We will work to put you in the driver’s seat of your own life, empowered with knowledge of your inherent strengths and tools to navigate the difficulties that arise.

If you're looking for a therapist who will affirm and validate your experience of the world while helping you to navigate the challenges you face, I’m here to help. I believe that everyone deserves to live a fulfilling and meaningful life, and I am committed to helping you to find peace and thrive in a world that is not always supportive or kind.
